Overview
The rooms are spacious, many offering views across the pool, gardens and across to the mountain range. In the early morning and evening the mountains shine a deep iron red, it is absolutely wonderful!
The breakfast here is a highlight for me. The hospitality team knows no bounds when it comes to looking after you.
The Hotel is inland immediately opposite the Alhaurin Golf and Country Club. Its location is equidistant from Alhaurin El Grande, Coin and Mijas Pueblo. It is a 20 minutes drive to the beach.

La Cala Golf Resort is one of the finest golf resorts on the Costa del Sol. With three 18 holes golf courses each offering a different challenge set on the hills above the picturesque village of La Cala de Mijas this is a super destination.
As a regular visitor I can attest to the genuine warmth of hospitality that is extended to all that stay here. The rooms are very well appointed and offer wonderful views. The sense of tranquility is positively energizing! Having battled with those 3 golf courses I can also tell you that the Spa really helped my “over golfed” body. The range of treatments and therapies were a great help in improving my mobility and getting rid of the post golf stiffness!
The restaurants are excellent. It is very easy to spend a week here and never feel the need to leave the resort!

Overview
I have been a regular guest at Matchroom for more than 20 years! My family and friends all elect to stay at the Matchroom when they visit as it is perfectly located. Situated on the 5th fairway of the Los Lagos course at Mijas Golf the views from the apartments across the gardens and the golf course are a delight. With its own clubhouse, gym, bar, restaurants, indoor and outdoor pools it really is a great place and represents amazing value.
Walking distance to 4 restaurants and a couple of supermarkets, this is a great place to base yourself for a short golf holiday on the Costa del Sol or even for a protracted stay. Many of my golfing friends spend the winters here – why not!

I have included this hotel because of its unbeatable location. We have used it several times for family visits etc and can tell you that whilst it is not the height of luxury, the hospitality is first class!
La Cala village is a fantastic base from which to enjoy a visit to the Costa del Sol. The golf courses are all close by and on non-golf days the VIK Gran Hotel can offer you front line access to the beach! Complete with beach bar and sun loungers this is impossible to beat! If you don’t like sand, no problem, the pool deck and garden are huge and are sited just 5m from the beach affording you the best of both worlds.
With three traditional Spanish Chiringuitos (Beach bar /restaurants) within 50m of the Hotel plus all of the other delights that La Cala has to offer the VIK Gran Hotel will make you very happy.

This venue is an icon on the Costa del Sol, synonymous with elegance, chic and style. The Byblos Hotel (as it was known) is set in the centre of the two Mijas Golf courses making it the perfect venue for a golf holiday on the Costa del Sol.
I remember as a young member at Mijas Golf watching in awesome of the Byblos high profile clientele enjoying this fabulous place. Julio Iglesias, Diana The Princess of Wales, The Rolling Stones amongst the plethora of the good and great that frequented this oasis.
Now under the stewardship of the Hyatt Unbound Collection the newly refurbished La Zambra Hotel will once again take its place as the jewel in the crown.
La Zambra will open on the 8th June 2022. This is going to be a very special place.

Mijas Golf
My home club and without a doubt my favourite golf courses along the Costa del Sol. Two 18 courses, Los Lagos a 7100-yard championship course, classic Trent Jones design, wide rolling fairways, huge, fast and contoured greens, a real delight. Los Olivos is shorter and narrower with elevated greens. Very different in character to Los Lagos but every bit its equal.
Both courses are well presented. With more than 40 years of heritage, Mijas Golf is probably the most popular golf complex on the Costa del Sol for good reason.
Miraflores Golf
A very successful golf club, owned and operated by its members. The golf course is set amongst the villas and homes of Riviera del Sol. This is not a long course and favours accuracy overpower.
The clubhouse is always busy with functions and events which are open to both members and guests.
Santana Golf
Santana Golf has become extremely popular with visitors to the Costa del Sol looking for a great place to play. Santana has elected not to have a membership so that they can focus completely on serving visiting guests.
The golf course is a lovely layout set amongst the Avocado groves, unspoilt by development. This Cabell Robinson design is always noted for its outstanding condition.
The clubhouse has an informal, warm feel to it and is known for great food.
Alhaurin Golf and Country Club
Alhaurin Golf and Country Club enjoys the stunning views that only a mountain course can produce. That same terrain, whilst beautiful, makes for an extremely challenging test of golf! I can recommend the 9 Hole par 3 course, in my opinion the best of its kind on the Costa del Sol, fabulous layout, large and fast greens. There is no better way to sharpen your game and enjoy this amazing place.
Calanova Golf Club
The clubhouse is a very nice place to be! The views across the Mediterranean are inspiring. Downstairs resides the most famous Golf Shop in the whole of Spain!
The golf course is set in the hill above La Cala and is extremely beautiful. The course is tough but fair. All handicaps will enjoy their time here.
La Cala Golf Resort
Three 18 holes golf courses with great practise facilities, a super clubhouse and a very efficient hospitality team make this golf resort a great experience
The golf courses all designed by Cabell Robinson are by nature of the hilly terrain all challenging. Each course has a different personality. The Asia course will reward those golfers with a strong tactical game, The America course is a delight for the longer hitters whilst the Europa course has a run of some of the toughest holes I have encountered. Of the three courses I would pick Europa and America as my favorites.
Lauro Golf
Lauro Golf offers 27 holes set in the foothills of the mountains that surround Malaga city. The view across the bay is very special. It is also a unique opportunity to watch aircraft approaching Malaga airport far below you!
The three loops of nine holes each combine to give a par 72 18 hole round. The golf course whilst not long is most definitely challenging picking the right tee shot is the secret to building a good score here.
Cerrado del Aguila
This is a 9 hole golf course set on top of the hills that separate Las Lagunas from La Cala. The facilities at Cerrado del Aguila are amazing, football, tennis, padel tennis a gym, fitness classes a superb clubhouse with a highly regarded restaurant not to mention 9 outstanding holes of golf
The condition of the course is usually excellent. The quality of the layout is very high featuring tough par 3’s, monster par 5’s and a couple of truly great par 4’s
It only takes 80 minutes to play 9 holes making it family-friendly. This is a good facility.
